Our Eco Friendly Difference

Our Eco Friendly Difference:

Exterior 2×6 wall construction: At Whitworth Builders we make it a priority to design our homes from the framing to the finish with energy conservation in mind. Our 2×6 exterior wall construction allows us to provide your home with a higher “R” value.  Insulation is identified and labeled according to its R-value. “R” is resistance to heat flow. Higher R-values provide greater insulation. For example, R-19 insulation provides 72% more insulating power than R-11. Because or our 2×6 exterior wall construction on selected models and subdivisions, Whitworth Built homes provide you an R-19 rating for the walls and an R-38 rating in the ceilings.

Low-E energy efficient windows: Our choices of windows to be installed are all Low-E windows. Low-E windows are designed to be more efficient than ordinary window glass, especially during the hot, sunny summer months. Windows manufactured with Low-E coatings typically cost about 10%–15% more than regular windows, but according to the U.S. Department of Energy Low-E windows reduce energy loss by as much as 30%–50%.  A Low-E coating is a microscopically thin, virtually invisible, metal or metallic oxide layer deposited directly on the surface of one or more of the panes of glass. The Low-E coating reduces the infrared radiation from a warm pane of glass to a cooler pane, thereby lowering the U-Factor of the window. The lower the U-factor, the greater a window’s resistance is to heat flow and the better its insulating properties become.

16 SEER Air Conditioning System: When finishing our home with an Air Conditioning Systems we plan for Efficient Performance. That’s why we install a 16 SEER Air Condition. Your Air Conditioner is measured by a Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER). Increased efficiency translates into savings in utility cost. For example: with annual costs to operate based on 36,000 Btu unit, 1,500 cooling load hours, and .08 kilowatts per hour and understanding that actual costs may vary depending on climate conditions, energy rates and patterns of usage the annual operating cost with a 10 SEER system would typically be $432 and with a 16 SEER system it would be $270 therefore indicating that the higher the SEER rating, the more efficiently your unit operates and more importantly you will save more money.
