Top Features You’ll Want in Your New Home

new home

When buying or building a new home, a solid foundation, sturdy walls, and reliable utilities are critically important. But the list of features doesn’t end here, as many people require different amenities to be integrated into their homes.

To help you select the right features for your new home, let’s take a close look at some of the elements home buyers want most.

Open Floor Plans

Open floor plans continue to be a popular choice among today’s homeowners for good reason: they create a nice flow throughout the home, while improving interaction among family members and guests. Moreover, an open floor plan that combines kitchen, dining, and living areas with a gorgeous and practical kitchen island, built-in cabinets, and appliances can create the illusion of more space. Depending on the floor plan that you select, you can turn your kitchen into a true hub ideal for entertaining and socializing.

Utility rooms

The second feature on the wish list of many would-be homeowners is a stylish and functional utility room equipped with high-end appliances and smart storage solutions that provide incredible convenience. After all, one of the most important reasons why people move into a new home is to make their life easier. Some elements you might want to consider for your utility room include a utility sink, plenty of storage space, a built-in ironing board, and an area for folding clothes.

Walk-In Closets, Showers, and Pantries

Walk-in closets, showers, and pantries are some other amenities you can add to your new home. While a walk-in pantry specifically dedicated to food storage can perfectly complement an open-concept kitchen, a roomy walk-in shower can add style, sophistication, and practicality to any bathroom. Furthermore, many home buyers would happily sacrifice other features for custom his and hers walk-in closets. At Whitworth Builders, we can come up with some beautiful and functional walk-in closet, pantry, and shower ideas that won’t only enhance your interior but also allow you to effectively use all the space in your home.

Energy-Efficient Everything

Energy efficiency is critically important in Florida’s sub-tropical climate. Opting for energy-efficient appliances and eco-friendly features can generate substantial savings year round and reduce your carbon footprint.

We always include energy-efficient appliances in the Whitworth homes that we built, such as Energy Star certified double ovens and microwave ovens. And as your home doesn’t need to be at an optimal temperature all the time, we can also add a programmable thermostat that will allow you to set up your AC system to cool your home just before you get home from work.

When finishing a Whitworth home, we install a 15 SEER or a 16 SEER AC unit. SEER stands for the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio and indicates the cooling output of an AC unit for each unit of energy it consumes. The higher the SEER rating, the more efficient the system is.

Additionally, all the homes that we design and build are enhanced with insulation upgrades, which complement our 2 x 6 exterior wall construction. The insulation we use will provide your new home with a high “R”-value. As the “R”-value stands for resistance to heat flow, the higher the rating, the greater the insulation power will be. This basically mans that a home with a higher “R” rating will be more energy efficient compared to a home with a lower rating. Currently, we have different home models that provide an R-19 rating for walls and an R-38 rating for ceilings.

As part of our energy-efficient package, we also install windows with low-E coatings that are more resistant to heat flow compared to conventional window glass. While low-E windows are up to 15% more expensive than regular windows, they reduce energy loss by as much as 50%.
